Alliances
I've been inactive for a while but havnt found a good thread regarding this subject yet.
After reading the offical FAQ regarding Factions I found the MOST exciting part was regarding the alliances features along with Faction battles made up of those alliances!
For the first time it seems Guildwars would hold true to his name with there actually being Guild WARS (well Guild Alliance Wars - but close enough )
I personally see this as a chance for smaller Guilds to join larger alliances and feel they can impact the Global game of Guildwars, without having to constantly recruit all the time.
I am unclear as to how these Alliances will form and how many Guilds an Alliance can be composed of however, and indeed if these Alliances can be named within the Guildwars game, or would it be something setup out-of-game, through a website.
Better yet through Forums such as these.
Personally I would like to join our guild to a UK alliance of sorts, and no doubt there would be similar Alliances across the world.
I have seen one or two threads regarding alliances, but Maybe this subject would warrant its own forum.
Any thoughts, suggestions?...

I had read that alliance would be 10 guilds max each. While to gain point to earn territory rely on a "faction point" system that you can gain from both PvE and/or PvP mission.
There are pretty much no way for a guild with only 8 elite active PvP player to out-gain 100 normal simple players on PvE quest. As Anet said, a powerful alliance would need both good PvP and PvE players. Right now, I am assuming an alliance of 1,000 active players would be quite deadly.
This means, number = power... So, that is quite a simple guide line there.
I am certainly looking foward to chapter 2.

This would also bring the PvP and PvE community closer together!
After playing GW for over 9 months there never seemed much point in recruiting PvE'ers, they often dont like pvp and there is rarley enough to keep them going for long in PvE. This would give both types of players a reason to at least TRY both
Does anyone know if this territory Alliances are fighting over will be a global territory map or a server limited map, or will there be both?

I'm curious as to how the battles are going to be. Are they going to be an entire alliance type thing, or 8v8? I hope there would be a mass player instance...
And also, wouldn't you just get all the pros joining up and destroying everything?
Sure most of these are pvp, but I'd say pvp is harder than pve and they are very organized so they would still probably win all the time.

oh without doubt PvP is harder, well depending on your perspective but PvP is definatly more competative. AI can never be as competative as that of Real Intelligence.
Good point you raise about how many people would be able to play together..
I once heard that they were introducing 16vs16 PvP.. so I guess you could, in theory, run an instance which hosted 8 teams of 4, 4 teams of 8, 2 teams of 16 or one uber team of 32 ?
I dont see it being very likley though such an instance would surley require a server.
At best I would speculate one team of 8 made of anyone in your alliance, maybe two teams of 6?

I like your thoughts on being part of an alliance to take part in a bigger battle and also your idea on bringing the PvE and PvP together so here I go
I think the best way to bring them together would be to insert areas where both can benefit in the ways they want to. If they inserted areas where alliances could battle it out in a 3 way war, where anyone can be attacked and you can be attacked by any random person in a different alliance that sorts the pvp, if they insert big bosses and masses of AI enemies with good drops people will battle to get them. I dont mean where you have to organise a whole team or else your going to walk out of town into an area on your own. If you could just sign up to an alliance walk into the area without a team with already heaps of people being there , yes ok major lag , but if they could just like 3 areas in the game for this it would rock. I hate that have to get a team thing , have to wait until everyones ready, if someone leaves we have to restart, when you could just walk into a contested area and there will be hundreds of team mates already there, only down thing I could really think off would be frame rapage.
Maybe a bit demanding but its a dream!!
